This second video for our single ‘Into the Light’ was filmed in and around the picturesque village of Kinsale, Co. Cork in July ’11. It was directed by Seán Breathnach, and Dan O’Connell (Egomotion) assisted with the filming on the day. Here’s a pic of them concentrating on getting their gear set up. Seán on the left.

Dan and Sean used a Canon 7d and a Canon 550d to shoot the video, using ND filters, and a Canon 50mm 1.4 lens and a Sigma 17-35mm 2.8 lens. They shot the video using the cinestyle picture style in order to increase the camera’s dynamic range, enhancing their ability to colour grade in post. Most of the video was shot hand-held, though they did use a Hague mini-stabiliser for some shots.

Seán came up with the concept of the video and decided to find a model and actor to play the main roles. Kellie Forde, a model with Lockdown Models Cork, was recommended to us. We knew that she had the perfect look and personality for the video the first day we met with her and showed great enthusiasm for the part. Here she is on the morning of the shoot viewing some footage with Seán.

Seán and Dan mapped out the route for the video the previous day and most of it was filmed in chronological order. Here they are beside the market house – one of the opening shots.

Kellie fell in love with this cottage the second she saw it and Seán decided afterwards that it would make a great setting for the opening of the video.

Here are Seán and Dan deciding on where each of them should set up for this shot around an old anchor on one of the streets.

The cliff scenes near at the end of the video were filmed around Sandy cove which is only a couple of miles outside the town. As you’ll see from this picture, the skies were quite overcast but we were so lucky that the sun decided to show itself once we got to the cliff edge.

At this stage, actor Sebastian came onboard to play his part. He has acted in several award winning short movies and had a great attitude on set. He got in to the role with a bare minimum of preparation. Here’s a pic of himself and Dan enjoying the stunning scenery.

Kellie and Seb hadn’t met before that day but they were completely relaxed together.

Dan and Seán went to great lengths to get shots which matched the beauty of the location and the charisma of the actors.

The cliffs were only a short distance below them...

A caterpillar in the grass nearby craning to see what’s going on at the cliff top...

Desiree Murphy helped out on the day and here she is in action giving Dan some moral support!

There are 2 stunning forts built around the 17th century which are close to Kinsale. James Fort seemed the most suitable and luckily for us the least busy on the day.

There are some fantastic entrances to the fort which Dan & Seán used for several of the shots.

Kellie suggested a couple of places to film including the merry go round.

Kinsale is a hugely popular tourist town. The filming took place on a very busy Sunday, as it was the only time everyone was available. The town was packed with tourists, Spanish students and locals. Also, it was a very blustery, showery and chilly day - but it didn’t affect the mood in any way. Everyone there was focused on getting it right.

Thanks a million to Seán, Dan, Kellie, Seb & Desiree for all their time and effort. You're the best!
